Motor Vehicle Collisions Pedestrian struck crossing street in marked cross walk suffered soft tissue injuries resulting in persistant pain. The case settled before trial for $45,000.
Cyclist was traveling on road when car pulled in front of him from a private driveway, throwing cyclist over the hood of car and onto pavement, causing fracture of knee and injury to legs. The case settled for $150,000 prior to trial.
Front-seat passenger developed a pulmonary embolism following a collision in which the car he was riding was forced into a curb and off the road. Despite minimal damage to the car, the case settled for policy limits of $100,000.
The driver of a vehicle that was rear-ended suffered a severe shoulder injury. The case settled for policy limits of $100,000.
Workplace Injuries Unsafe workplace conditions caused a concrete pumping truck to tip and equipment to strike a worker. He suffered a fall with life-threatening injuries to his head, heart, and lungs. The case settled for $1.475 million.
An employee of a railroad developed post-traumatic stress after witnessing two trains in a head-on collision. The case settled for $445,603.
A young employee of a construction subcontractor fell from a condo balcony that lacked proper safety railings. As a result, he suffered injuries to both feet and legs. The case settled for $350,000.
Medical Malpractice Inmate of a federal detention facility contracted tuberculosis that was not diagnosed or treated. The case settled before trial for $1.4 million prior to trial.
Midwife’s negligence during labor and delivery resulted in severe birth injury causing permanent disability. The case settled before trial for $1 million.
A young man was permitted to walk on a severely fractured foot. As a result he suffered pain and deformity and required subsequent surgeries. The case settled for $250,000.
An elderly woman was admitted to a hospital where a screening colonoscopy resulted in her colon being severed. Post-operatively, she received an epidural catheter for pain management. She developed an epidural hemorrhage resulting in paraplegia. After being transferred to a nursing home for rehabilitation, she developed an infected pressure sore resulting in gangrene. Her foot was amputated. The case settled for $1.2 million.
An elderly woman suffered a blood clot to her leg when surgeons failed to properly perform a procedure to repair an aneurysm. As a result, her leg had to be amputated below the knee. The case settled for $500,000.
A young man died during elective eye surgery when the anesthesiologist failed to properly remove his breathing tube at the end of surgery. The case settled for $705,000.
Birth Injuries A baby suffered asphyxiation and brain injury resulting in cerebral palsy due to failure of a midwife to transfer the mother to a hospital in a timely manner after many hours of ineffective labor and despite signs of fetal distress. The case settled for $10 million.
A term baby was delivered stillborn as a result of the obstetrician’s failure to properly monitor the baby during pregnancy. The case settled for $250,000.
Long-Term Care and Nursing Home Negligence Nursing home staff failed to properly remove a leg prosthesis from a woman with a below the knee amputation. As a result, an elderly lady suffered severe lacerations and a deep wound to the stump. The case settled for $145,000.
A home care nurse fell asleep during her shift, failing to monitor a young quadriplegic man with breathing difficulties. She did not respond when his breathing tube became blocked. He struggled for air until he lost consciousness. He died of complications of asphyxiation. The case settled for $900,000.
Defective medical device A disabled woman with complicating medical problems died when the defective rental wheelchair she was sitting in rolled down a slope in a parking lot and struck a fence. Complications arose and after months in the hospital, she died. The case settled for $550,000 prior to trial.
Pedestrian/Auto A woman was struck as she crossed a busy intersection in a cross-walk with a green light. She suffered a small leg fracture and required no surgery. The case settled before trial for $228,000.
